Monel K-500 (UNS N05500/W.Nr.2.4375) is a nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with additional advantages in strength and hardness. By adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base and heating under controlled conditions, submicron-sized Ni3(Ti,AI) particles precipitate throughout the matrix, resulting in enhanced performance. The heat treatment used to achieve precipitation is commonly referred to as aging hardening or aging.
Monel alloy K-500 is widely used in marine applications including chains, cables, fasteners, and springs; chemical processing equipment such as pumps and valves; pulp processing blades and scrapers for paper manufacturing; oil well casing and instruments, pump shafts, impellers, non-magnetic casings, safety lifting systems, and valves in petroleum and natural gas production; as well as sensors and other electronic components.
The density of the alloy is ρ=8.44/cm³
