Inconel X-750 is a precipitation-hardening nickel-chromium alloy used for its corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and high strength up to 1300°F. Although the precipitation hardening effect significantly decreases when temperatures exceed 1300°F, heat-treated materials still maintain useful strength at 1800°F. Inconel X-750 also demonstrates excellent performance at extremely low temperatures.
Inconel X-750 is used in gas turbines for rotor blades, impeller discs, bolts, and other structural components. This material is extensively employed in rocket engine thrust chambers. Its structural applications include thrust reversers and hot air duct systems. Inconel X-750 is also manufactured for large pressure vessels. Other applications encompass heat treatment fixtures, forming tools, extrusion dies, and testing machine fixtures. For springs and fasteners, Inconel X-750 operates within temperatures ranging from-100°C to 1200°F.
Heat treatment of Inconel X-750:
Depending on the application and desired properties, various heat treatment methods are used: For applications above 1100°F, particularly those requiring prolonged load-bearing conditions, optimal performance can be achieved through a combination of annealing (2100°F), stabilization treatment (1550°F), and precipitation treatment (1300°F). In applications below 1100°F, alloys can be enhanced via precipitation treatment after hot or cold working, equilibrium treatment, or annealing treatment. Furnace cooling treatment is also employed to optimize performance in specific applications.
