Incoloy 945 is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy specifically designed for demanding applications in the oil and gas industry. This aging-hardening nickel-iron-chromium alloy enhances performance through its molybdenum, copper, niobium, titanium, and aluminum content. The nickel content in Incoloy 945 provides resistance to chlorine-induced stress corrosion cracking. The combination of nickel with molybdenum and copper ensures exceptional corrosion resistance in reducing environments. Molybdenum also confers resistance to localized pitting and crevice corrosion. Chromium content offers protection against oxidative conditions. Niobium, titanium, and aluminum participate in the aging hardening reaction during heat treatment. Their interactions form “dual precipitation,” which strengthens the alloy.
Incoloy 945 alloy is designed for high-strength and corrosion-resistant applications in oil and gas fields, particularly in corrosive acid wells containing high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and chlorides. Its exceptional stress crack resistance in hydrogen-rich environments makes it ideal for downhole and surface gas well components including pipe fittings, valves, suspension brackets, landing nozzles, tool joints, and packers. The alloy also serves as a robust material for fasteners, pump shafts, and high-pressure pipeline systems.
Nickel (Ni): gives the alloy the ability to resist chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Molybdenum (Mo): Works in conjunction with nickel and copper to provide excellent overall corrosion resistance in reducing media, while enhancing the ability to resist local corrosion (pitting and crevice corrosion).
Copper (Cu): works with nickel and molybdenum to further improve the resistance to reducing chemical media.
Chromium (Cr): Provides corrosion resistance in oxidizing environments.
Niobium (Nb), titanium (Ti) and aluminum (Al): During the heat treatment process, they participate in the aging hardening reaction to form γ’ (gamma prime) and γ” (gamma double prime) precipitation phases, thus significantly improving the strength of the alloy.
Key features
High strength: excellent mechanical properties are achieved by aging hardening heat treatment.
Excellent corrosion resistance: Resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Excellent performance in both reducing and oxidizing environments. Resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. High temperature resistance: suitable for high temperature and high pressure environment.
Incoloy 945 alloy is used in demanding applications in the oil and gas industry, including: Underground and surface equipment: Oil well pipe, valve, packer, hanger, etc. Equipment in an acidic environment (including H₂S and CO₂). Chemical and energy industries: High intensity piping system, pumps and valves. Components exposed to corrosive media. Other high stress environments: Applications that require high strength, corrosion resistance and durability combined. Incoloy 945 alloy is a high-performance material that combines high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking, making it particularly suitable for harsh environments in the oil and gas industry. Its unique chemical composition and aging hardening properties make it an ideal choice for high-stress and corrosive environments.
The density of the alloy is ρ=8.20g/cm³.
