Incoloy 909 alloy is a nickel-iron alloy with the outstanding characteristics of constant low thermal expansion coefficient, constant elastic modulus and high strength. The alloy is strengthened by precipitation hardening heat treatment through the addition of niobium and titanium.
The combination of low thermal expansion and high strength makes Incoloy 909 alloy particularly suitable for gas turbines. The low thermal expansion allows tighter control over clearance and tolerances, enabling greater power output and fuel efficiency. The high strength improves the strength-to-weight ratio, making aircraft engines lighter. For these reasons, Incoloy 909 alloy is used in gas turbine components including blades, casings, shafts, and fairings.
The properties of Incoloy 909 alloy are also suitable for rocket engine nozzle chambers, military hardware, springs, steam turbine bolts, gauge blocks, instrumentation and glass sealing applications.
The density of the alloy is ρ=8.19g/cm³.
