Hastelloy B-3 alloy is another member of the nickel-molybdenum alloy family and has excellent corrosion resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures. This alloy is also resistant to sulfuric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid and other non-oxidizing media. B-3 alloy features a special chemical design to achieve a higher level of thermal stability than its predecessors, such as HASTELLOY B-2 alloy. The B-3 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion of tool lines and heat-affected zones.
B-3 alloy has excellent overall formability and welding properties. This alloy can be forged or otherwise hot-worked, provided that it is held at a temperature of 2250°F(1230 ° C) for a sufficient period of time to allow the entire workpiece to reach that temperature. As it is a low-carbon alloy, a lower heat treatment temperature may be required to achieve grain size control.
Hastelloy B-3 alloy is available in the form of plates, thin plates, strips, billets, bars, wires, tubes and tube billets.
The density of this alloy is ρ=9.22/cm³.
