The chemical composition of UNS N06686(Inconel686)

Tech Center 2025-07-29 5

Inconel686 is a single-phase austenitic iron-nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy that exhibits outstanding corrosion resistance in various harsh environments. Its high nickel (Ni) and high molybdenum (Mo) provide good corrosion resistance under reducing conditions, while the high chromium (Cr) offers corrosion resistance to oxidizing media. Molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W) help resist local corrosion such as pitting. Iron (Fe) is strictly controlled to enhance its performance. Low-carbon (C) helps minimize grain boundary precipitation to maintain corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone of the welded joint.

Inconel686 is used to resist corrosive media in applications such as chemical processing, pollution control, pulp and paper manufacturing, and waste management.

The density of this alloy is ρ=8.73g/cm³.
